January 14, Arab Spring: After a month of violent protest the Tunesian government falls, President Ben Ali resignates and flees to Saudi Arabia.
January 24, A terrorist attac at Domodedovo International Airport in Moscow, Russia, kills 37 people, 180 others are injured.
February 11, Arab Spring: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigns after violent protest calling for his departure, leaving control of Egypt in the hands of the military until a generell election can be held
February 22, Uncertainty over Libyan oil output causes oil prices to rise 20%.
March 11, The east of Japan is hit by an earthquake and following tsunami. 15 840 people were killed, another 3926 missing. Emergencies are declared at four nuclear power plants affected by the quake. Nuclear meltdowns in probably tree of six reactors on Fukushima.
March 15, Arab Spring: Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain declares a state of emergency after troops from the Gulf Co-operation Council are sent for the dissolving of the civil unrest
March 17, Arab Spring: The Untited Nations Security Council votes 10-0 to create a no-fly zone over Libya to obviate further government aggression against civilians.
March 18, Arab Spring: Attacks on Libyan rebels by forces in support of leader Muammar Gaddafi continue, Militay intervention authorized under UNSCR 1973 begins

May 26, Former Bosnian Serb Army commander Ratko Mladic is arrested in Serbia. He was wanted for genozid, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
June 05, Arab Spring: President of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh, travels to Saudi Arabia for a medical treatment on an injury, caused by an attack ob the presidential palace. Power is transferred to Vice-President Abd al-Rab Mansur al-Hadi.
June 12, Arab Spring: Syrian troops lay siege to a city in the north of Syria, thousends flee to Turkey.
